Traditional philanthropy is broken.

The resources marginalized communities need to thrive are gatekept.

Out of the annual $400 billion of endowment funds, less than 1% has gone to women of color and trans or queer people. The Deep South receives less than 3% of philanthropic dollars nation-wide.

Founded in 2020, the mission of Funding for Social Change is to increase the flow of capital to historically marginalized and underserved communities by equipping nonprofit leaders and grassroots organizers with the skills and resources to secure funding and develop lasting infrastructure to sustain their work. This support has primarily focused on organizations led by and for people of color, women, and trans and queer people working on “hard-to-fund” issues (e.g., harm reduction, gender-affirming care, ending cash bail, housing justice).

As a group of grant writers, creatives, and consultants, we raised over $26 million in funding and continue to lower barriers to entry in the philanthropy sector by sharing free resources and offering capacity-building training and workshops.

While we have limited capacity to provide grant writing services, we welcome you to reach out to us at [email protected] or schedule a free consultation call if you have questions  related to accessing and using our free resources, offering capacity-building training, or are seeking a referral for grant writing services.

Testimonials

Funding for Change is dedicated to helping grassroots organizations grow and become more capable of taking on systems of injustice. I cannot emphasize how helpful and patient Joa Jin has been in the process of aiding an organization totally ignorant of grant writing and it’s foundational principles. From a group with no knowledge and experience of how to get funding, we eventually started to get so much funding we didn’t know what to do with it!! The ability to work with our flexible schedules, the patience and kindness shown to personal or emergency issues, and the empathy and generosity Joa and her partners have shown makes me feel that Funding For Social Change really understands our vision for the future.

Funding For Social Change has been a great partner for my organization. Their skill in fundraising, development, and grant writing has helped us move to new levels of support. They have a deep understanding of the social justice space and of movement building that helps them navigate the funding world and still be true to the mission of organizations they represent.

Joanna can go into a completely unfamiliar situation and not only make the most of it, but thrive and give you better results than you even thought possible. Joanna will be the one to see the opportunities, grasp them, and know what to do next.
